P5 participate in Tullysaran O’Connells GAC Green Club Initiative

On Tuesday 6th of May, P5 were invited to the pitch to participate in one of the club’s first ‘Green Club’ initiatives. We met 2 of our P5 parents, Donal McKenna and Oisin Conlon at the bottom of the main pitch. The Green Club want to create protected areas for wildlife within the club grounds. Donal and Oisin presented a very detailed information session on local established birds and mammals that are currently in our locality. We saw pictures of each species, learned information about them and found out the Irish name for them. Donal and Oisin were in the process of putting up several bird nesting boxes and explained to us about the type, location, height and direction of the boxes.  P5 were so engaged in the information sharing session, asking lots of good questions. We were delighted to be involved. This reminded us that our club is ‘a club for all’ and we are lucky to have nature and wildlife on our doorstep.
